The Wanda Campbell Historical Room

The Wanda Campbell Historical Room

The Wanda Campbell Historical Room is a rich resource for genealogical research in Bladen County. Ms. Campbell was Clerk of Court for many years for Bladen County and her collection of materials is invaluable. It was her request that these resources be made available for use by the public. The room has general genealogy books, family files, some history vertical files, and some microfilm reels including select years of The Bladen Journal. Unfortuately, we do not have the staff to do extensive genealogy research for individuals that are unable to come do their own research. However, if you have a simple look-up, please contact the library to see how we can help you. If you plan to come use the room, consider calling ahead as occasionally the room is closed for special library use. Also, if you need research assistance and can call ahead, we may be able to arrange for a volunteer to meet you while you are here to help you with your research. The room always closes an hour earlier than the rest of the library. Please see our list of family files or historical files to help determine if a visit to the Wanda Campbell Room is worth your time.

StudentAccess

Beginning February 1, 2019, all Bladen County Public Schools students will be able to use their Student ID number to access and borrow public library books and resources. We are calling this initiative StudentAccess. Question: How will a student use their student ID account? Answer: Students will use their student ID number and PIN to borrow books or access the library’s services like e-books and online research materials. The default PIN is the last four digits of the student ID number Question: What can a student do with a student ID account? Answer: Student ID accounts allow students to borrow e-resources and access library databases just like any other Bladen County Public Library card. Students can also borrow up to 10 print or audio books from the Bladen County Public Library collection. Question: Is the student account free? Answer: Yes, the student account is free. There are no overdue fines for student accounts, but students are responsible for any fees on lost or damaged books. Question: How do I sign my child up for a student ID account? Answer: You don’t need to take any action to get a student ID account for your child. All Bladen County Schools students from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade will automatically be enrolled in the program. Question: What if I don’t want my child to have a student ID account? Answer: If you do not want your child to have access to library materials, you may opt out. Please see below for an opt-out form that you can sign and return to your school’s media coordinator. Please be aware that any students who opt out of StudentAccess will not be able to participate in classroom use of library resource unless they have a Bladen County Public Library card and know their full number and PIN.
